Meet Our Team
Josh Thomason
Josh Thomason is a principal of Piedmont Housing Group, LLC. Josh has been responsible for the production of over 1,300 affordable housing units in Georgia and South Carolina, utilizing a combination of LIHTCs, HOME funds and USDA financing. Josh serves on the board of the GA Affordable Housing Coalition (the “Coalition”) and is currently the Chair of the Coalition’s QAP Committee that facilitates dialogue between the Coalition and The Georgia Department of Community Affairs (“DCA”) regarding formulation of Georgia’s QAP.

Josh has over 20 years of experience in the affordable housing industry. Since 2010, Josh has been an owner and developer in 20 LIHTC properties that have placed in service. Each of those properties is in good standing with the investors and respective state housing finance agency.

Prior to 2010, Josh worked as CFO for an affordable housing development company in Georgia for five years. Prior to that, Josh worked at CohnReznick for five years with a focus on the financial aspects of affordable housing.

Josh holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia.
Scott Nelson
Scott Nelson is a principal of Piedmont Housing Group, LLC. Scott has over 20 years of accounting and finance experience in several industries, including 10 years focused on affordable housing.
Prior to joining Piedmont Housing Group, Scott spent 10 years as the Senior Vice President of Finance for Red Diamond, Inc. In his role there, he was responsible for all aspects of the accounting and finance functions and was heavily involved in the operations of the business.
Scott began his career with Reznick Group where he focused on audits and attest engagements primarily in the affordable housing industry. After 5 years with Reznick, Scott worked in a consulting capacity on the restructuring of HealthSouth Corporation (post-fraud) and the carve-out and eventual sale of the Surgery Division to a private equity firm. After several years with Surgical Care Affiliates, Scott returned to public accounting joining Tidwell Group where he became an audit and assurance partner concentrating on engagements with affordable housing real estate developers.
Scott received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Alabama and is a certified public accountant (Georgia and Alabama).
